Panboola Wetlands & Heritage Project Inc.

Panboola Wetlands and Heritage project is a 84 hectare salt marsh and river flat conservation area, sandwiched between Pambula Village and Beowa National Park.  Located on the flood plain, Pambula River runs along the boundary, meandering into Pambula Lake.  The spans of marsh, mangrove, grasses, coastal scrub and eucalypt are a haven for wildlife, especially birds.

Once the site of Pambula township, Panboola also encompasses the old Pambula Racecourse.  The interesting history and natural beauty of Panboola make it a must-visit destination on the Sapphire Coast.

The land was generously donated by a local resident, who purchased the parcel of land in several parts, beginning with a 6 hectare allotment in 1997, and gifted it to the community in 2003.

Panboola is managed by Pambula Wetlands and Heritage Project Inc. and is largely maintained by a team of volunteers from within the community.

I have a long history with Panboola, having been involved since it's inception in 2003 with various design and interpretive signage aspects. It's a place close to my heart.  I visit several times a week and surprisingly, I still find something new almost every time!

Panboola is an ever changing landscape that ebbs and flows with the seasons, the tides, the sun and the rain.  Uniquely Australian and a huge source of inspiration for the nature photographer.
