Private Bird Photography Coaching in East Gippsland
Meet me in beautiful East Gippsland for a relaxed, private bird photography coaching session designed around you, your camera and the photographs you’d love to create.
These one-on-one bird photography sessions are all about building confidence in the field. We can work on getting your camera settings sorted, improving focus and exposure, photographing birds in flight, understanding light and backgrounds, or exploring creative composition and techniques that can take your bird photography further.
Whether you’re struggling with the technical side of your camera or simply want to create stronger, more engaging bird photographs, we’ll focus on the areas that will make the biggest difference to you, working at your pace and with plenty of opportunities to put what we discuss into practice.
Bird Photography Tuition Around Bairnsdale
Sessions take place at one of my favourite bird photography locations in East Gippsland, generally within a 30-minute drive of Bairnsdale, Victoria. I’ll recommend the location when we book, taking into account current conditions, bird activity and what you’d particularly like to work on.
Rather than racing around trying to tick off as many species as possible, the emphasis is on slowing down, identifying the right photographic opportunities and learning how to make the most of them.
After our field session, we’ll sit down over a relaxed “carpark coffee”, cup of tea or cool drink and a snack to review the session, answer questions and talk through what you’ve learned.
Follow-Up Support Included
Your private coaching session also includes a follow-up Zoom chat.
This gives you time to download and review your photographs, put some of your new skills into practice and come back with questions. We can look at your images together, discuss what worked and identify a few practical things to focus on next.
My aim is for you to leave with more than a collection of photographs from a morning out. You’ll have a clearer understanding of your camera, a stronger approach to photographing birds in the field and practical techniques you can continue using long after our session.
Morning and Afternoon Sessions Available
I recommend a morning session starting around 7am for the best experience.
I find the birds are more active in the mornings ... but the afternoon can yield some beautiful light results if you're just not a morning person!

Which birds will we see?
Unfortunately I can't make any promises about exact species.
There is a wide range of birds in East Gippsland, and I will choose the location and meeting point for optimal opportunities, depending on the season and what I've been seeing on my regular outings.
What Happens Next
After you submit your booking request, I will contact you via telephone to confirm your booking, arrange a meeting place and have a brief chat about your photography goals.
Once we have agreed on a time and date, I will contact you via email or text the day before, after a weather check, to request payment if it looks suitable to proceed. In the case of bad weather, we'll reschedule to another time.
